Douglas Yeo Trombone Web Site - Bass Trombonist of the Boston Symphony
Bass Trombonist Douglas Yeo was born in Monterey, California and grew up in Queens and Valley Stream, New York (where he began playing the trombone at the age of nine in the Hewlett-Woodmere school system), and Oak Ridge, New Jersey (where he graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1973). Before joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra/Boston Pops Orchestra in May 1985, he was a member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 1981-1985 and he was on the faculties of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He holds a bachelor of music degree with honor from Wheaton College in Illinois and a master of arts degree from New York University. His principal teachers were Edward Kleinhammer and Keith Brown.

International Trombone Association

Capital BrassWorks
Since its opening concert in June 1999, Capital BrassWorks has been impressing audiences everywhere with a huge range of stunningly rendered programmes. The group includes some of Canada's best brass players and percussionists, drawn primarily from the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Guest artists from the Toronto and Montreal Symphonies have also taken part in CBW concerts and recordings. The ensemble plays a wide variety of repertoire, from Renaissance music to contemporary music for brass. Several CBW members are accomplished arrangers, and the group has performed both original works and arrangements by some of Canada's finest composers.
Brad Howland Music
Brad Howland holds the Principal Trombone chair of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, and has performed in the past with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, the Palm Court Orchestra, and the new music group Aventa Ensemble. In 2008 Brad was engaged for four weeks as a substitute player in the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a member of the Beacon Hill Brass, performing on both euphonium and trombone.

James Markey
Mr. Markey is the newly appointed Bass Trombonist of the Boston Symphony and began his tenure there in August 2012. We wish him the greatest of good luck in his new position. Previously he was appointed to the Bass Trombone position of the New York Philharmonic in June 2007, James Markey joined the Philharmonic as Associate Principal Trombone in 1997. Previously, Mr. Markey was Principal Trombone of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and since 2001 he has been a member of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony.

Summit Brass Institute (Raphael Mendez Brass Institute)
Summit Brass is the first and only truly American brass ensemble to represent the United States. Touring in America and throughout the world, the ensemble consists of some of the nation's leading trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba soloists and chamber and orchestral musicians. They have recorded numerous albums, been the feature of many television and radio programs, and commissioned many works for brass.
The ensemble was formed by trumpet virtuoso David Hickman in 1985.

Alessi Seminar
Joseph Alessi, one of the finest Trombonists in the universe holds a 10 day seminar on the odd years. Participation is limited to a small number who audition. The seminar is intense but very stimulating for those involved.

PRISMA is the new two week Orchestral and Chamber music Festival in Powell River BC Canada which offers a unique program that prepares advanced students and young professionals for a career in music performance and in obtaining a position in a professional orchestra.
Gordon Cherry has been the Trombone faculty instructor since its inception in 2004 as the SOAP Festival.
Its Music Director is Arthur Arnold who has also been with the SOAP Festival since 2004 and is a very well regarded conductor in Europe and North America.

Dr. Wagner is a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma where he is holds the distinguished titles of David Ross Boyd and Regents Professor of Music. At the University he teaches trombone as well as serves as the Coordinator of Graduate Studies and Music Director and Conductor for the Music Theater Program. Complimentary to his regular duties at the University, he is a trombonist in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra as well as an occasional Conductor for Pops Concerts of the Orchestra.

Ron Barron - Principal Trombonist Boston Symphony retired
RONALD BARRON was Principal Trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1975 until 2008. He joined the orchestra in 1970 after being a member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and also served as Principal Trombonist of the Boston Pops for thirteen seasons. Mr. Barron is a graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati, where he studied with Ernest Glover. During his college years, he also toured with the American Wind Symphony.
Mr. Barron has an excellent discography to his credit. Trombonists should pick up a couple to hear his extraordinary playing.
